Hi 👋 It’s been a while! I’ve just been on a call with my colleagues at the @fertility.nutrition.centre and one thing that came up was the amount of time we spend on our clients (and we wouldn’t have it any other way because we like to leave no stone unturned! 💕)

So I thought I’d tell you a little bit about what goes on outside your consultation time because the time you spend on zoom with me is just a fraction of the work I do for you. 

💕 For every client I see I research their case before we even speak.
💕 I call laboratories about testing and spend time interpreting test results.
💕 I go through research papers to make sure my protocols are up to date and are suitable for my clients 
💕 I check whether supplements are safe alongside client medication. 
💕 I sometimes speak to colleagues to see if they have any thoughts on how to best help my clients (keeping clients anonymous) - many minds are better than one! 

😊 And I think about my clients every day because I sooooo want them to succeed! (So if you’re a client or ex client of mine please keep me posted on your news, I really want to hear it!)

There are a huge variety of tests which might help shed some answers but these are a few of the ones I use most regularly with clients. 

It’s also really important to remember that investigations need to reflect BOTH partners - healthy sperm is just as important as healthy eggs and a healthy environment. 

⭐️ Sperm DNA fragmentation - a sperm test. Damaged sperm DNA can lead to infertility or miscarriage but diet and lifestyle can improve it!
⭐️ Vaginal microbiome - a vaginal swab. Certain strains of bacteria are linked to miscarriage or infertility - but others are protective, and again, we can swing it the right way as long as we know what we’re dealing with. 
⭐️ Stool test - a stool sample. This shows us what’s going on in the gut - microbes, parasites, yeasts, inflammation etc. If your gut is unhappy it’s hard for anything else to function optimally. Luckily diet, lifestyle and targeted supplements can be hugely effective. 
⭐️ Thyroid panel - a blood test. This is one of the red flags in miscarriage - thyroid hormone levels are vital in maintaining pregnancy. 
⭐️ Methylation panel - a saliva swab to look at your DNA. Methylation is involved in every process and variations in certain genes can increase miscarriage risk. Adjusting nutrient status accordingly can help reduce that risk. 
⭐️ Nutrient status - blood tests. Optimising nutrient intake supports just about everything in the body. Vitamin D, B12, ferritin are key players here but so many other nutrients need to be considered too - magnesium, zinc, B vitamins, selenium… the list goes on. 

💕 This list isn’t exhaustive and your specific case might indicate different or additional tests to help us understand your health picture and to do as much as we can to try and improve your chances at a healthy, full term pregnancy in future 💕

👉 IVF is tough on the body and mind, so having a support network to help look after you is really useful. 

👉 Working with practitioners such as an acupuncturist, reflexologist, counsellor, nutritionist, yoga teacher - whoever you’re drawn to - can help support your fertility but also your overall well-being, alongside your team of medical professionals. 

😊 It might also help to share with friends and family - or if you’re not comfortable with that, sometimes finding like-minded people in support groups or even Instagram can help.

No NY resolutions from me!

Instead I’m going to set myself monthly mini challenges that are totally achievable 😊 January’s is an obvious choice… no booze!

And December’s will be untangling the Christmas lights that I’m casually chucking back in their boxes today without tearing my hair out … good luck to future Laura 🤦🏻‍♀️

I’ll keep you posted on which little challenges I choose throughout the year - they’ll all be fertility-friendly, great for hormonal balance and generally good for the body and soul 🥰

Accurate representation of where you‘ll find me for the next couple of weeks - curled up with cookbooks (and probably a few family labradors… if that’s not living the dream I don’t know what is!? 🐾🐾🐾)

🥰 I’ve so enjoyed the privilege of being part of my clients’ health journeys and to help those who are struggling with fertility. I’ve been there, it’s the hardest thing I’ve ever been through, and it means the world to me to be able to be a source of help and guidance to others going through it 🥰

💕 I’m going to take some time off social media to recharge the batteries and spend some quality time with my family so I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! 🥳

The DUTCH test!

👉One of my favourite tests to use with clients experiencing hormonal imbalances. 

🤯 SO much information - and this is just one page! We can learn about a client’s oestrogen, progesterone, testosterone, DHEA - all the big sex hormones. We can see their levels and how they are being metabolised, and whether the liver is able to handle them when it’s time for them to go. 

👉 We also get information about melatonin and cortisol so that we can assess adrenal function, sleep and stress. 

😊 I find it endlessly fascinating and such a useful way to help clients link symptoms to what’s actually going on in their bodies. 

👉 We can then use specific dietary advice and supplements to make tweaks and bring the body back into balance. 

💕 P.S. this snapshot is taken from a DUTCH test I did myself a few years ago… a lot of work was needed with these results! 🤦🏻‍♀️😂
